Crank up the volume and bang your head. Metallica has made their own whiskey with the help of master distiller Dave Pickerll. What do you get when you pair an award winning band with a master distiller…. you get BLACKENED. For those of you who don’t know, Dave Pickerell is widely known for his tenure at Maker’s Mark and made a name for himself at Whistle Pig. So why whiskey you ask, well as they tell it in the beginning they had no money to drink anything other than whitle-label beer and vodka. It wasn’t until they moved to L.A. to make ….And Justice for All album and the Black album that they were more exposed to whiskey and Jack Daniel’s. Whiskey is something they graduated to.
FORGED BY SOUND
What this means is during finishing the barrels are sonically enhanced by playing music causing it move and interact with the wood. The movement of he whiskey and the amount of interaction depends on the song being played. The variation creates a slight nuance from one batch to the next. How does it taste? Lars says “the taste is light, it’s assertive, it feels modern. It’s I guess, warm. I like mine chilled with a big ice cube.” Dave says to his palate it’s a “rich, full bodied whiskey with notes of dried fruit because of the brandy finish.” Believe it or not there is actually 6 different playlists for 6 different slight variations.
