This is a special edition with Dan who has been in 5 of our reviews so far and is moving to Colorado. While visiting, Dan did a tour at Stranahan's Distillery and brought back a bottle for us to do one last review before he moves on. This bottle of Stranahan's maple barrel finished single malt can only be gotten at the distillery. Kris in his infinite wisdom, knew that tasting the original next to the maple would be key. To celebrate 6 years of Whiskey and a Hammock we have a special review with Brian Herring the East Region Brand & Barrel Ambassador for Registered Distillery One. We go through, not one, but four of RD1's expressions from their straight bourbon whiskey to their French Stave finished, then Amburana, and finally Maple. Find out how they started, where the name came from and the new research and development destination center in Lexington Kentucky on the Bourbon Trail. Find out what a "whiskey necklace" is and how it works. Plus, Brian drops a teaser alert. Three special barrels they've been thieving from should be ready at the destination center and the end of summer or fall. Brian then takes us on a wild adventure that blows the flavor wheel out of the water! Our first Bushcraft WhiskeyVenture or as we called it, Whiskey in the Wilderness was a success! We hung out with Joe and Emma from Valiant Outfitters where we learned some necessary bushcrafting skills like, proper way to use your knife, baton wood, how to start a fire with charcloth and how to make a shelter with a tarp and paracord. Also, Whiskey Krew members Milo and Mase made it out to partake in the days festivities. It wouldn't be a WhiskeyVenture if we didn't bring WHISKEY! For our part, we brought a bottle of Noble Oak Bourbon and High West's Yippee Ki-Yay. Plus tin cups to drink it out of around the camp fire. Our schedule: • Intro to Bushcrafting, knife skills, shelter set up • Whiskey tasting, Noble Oak Bourbon • Lunch! (Emma's chili won) • Fire starting using char cloth and flint. • Overview of the days events, dinner. • Final Whiskey Tasting with High West Yippee Ki-Yay which is a blend of 3 different ryes then finished in Vermouth and Syrah barrels This is what Whiskey and a Hammock is all about, enjoying the outdoors, relaxing with a pour of whiskey and making memories with friends. A quick tour of the Grand Tasting at the St. Augustine Food & Wine Fest in St. Augustine. This time it was held at the Ancient City Farmstead. We had a great time at the 2nd annual Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Fest at Metropolitan Park in Jacksonville. Beautiful weather and plenty of spirits! We were pouring Brass & Anchor a local whiskey brand from Warriors and Whiskey and to say it was popular would be an understatement! We took a little break to sample some things ourselves and see our good friends Noal at Old Elk, Ingrid at Whistle Pig, and Tyler and Von Payne. Our first year as a vendor at the Southeast Adventure Vehicle Expo and we had a blast. Met so many great Whiskey Adventure people and got to introduce them to Whiskey and a Hammock! Everyone that stopped by got to try April One Bourbon and then invited them to come back for the after hours tasting! We even brought our signature cocktail, The Sojourner and found that was a hit.
